Number theoryDifficulty 6.3National OlympiadFind the answer
Determine all non-negative integral solutions (n1,n2,…,n14) if any, apart from permutations, of the Diophantine Equation n14+n24+⋯+n144=1599 .
A number or a short expression. Fractions can be typed as 3/2, and spacing doesn't matter.
Solution
Recall that ni4≡0,1mod16 for all integers ni . Thus the sum we have is anything from 0 to 14 modulo 16. But 1599≡15mod16 , and thus there are no integral solutions to the given Diophantine equation.
