How many solid 1imes1imes11 imes 1 imes 1 cubes are required to make a solid 2imes2imes22 imes 2 imes 2 cube?

A number or a short expression. Fractions can be typed as 3/2, and spacing doesn't matter.

Solution

The volume of a 1imes1imes11 imes 1 imes 1 cube is 1 . The volume of a 2imes2imes22 imes 2 imes 2 cube is 8 . Thus, 8 of the smaller cubes are needed to make the larger cube.
