Suppose that d is an odd integer and e is an even integer. How many of the following expressions are equal to an odd integer? d+d,(e+e)imesd, dimesd, dimes(e+d)
A number or a short expression. Fractions can be typed as 3/2, and spacing doesn't matter.
Solution
Since d is an odd integer, then d+d is even and dimesd is odd. Since e is an even integer, then e+e is even, which means that (e+e)imesd is even. Also, e+d is odd, which means that dimes(e+d) is odd. Thus, 2 of the 4 expressions are equal to an odd integer.
