Geometry Difficulty 4.8 AIME Find the answer

Let AMOLA M O L be a quadrilateral with AM=10,MO=11A M=10, M O=11, and OL=12O L=12. Given that the perpendicular bisectors of sides AMA M and OLO L intersect at the midpoint of segment AOA O, find the length of side LA.

Solution

Let DD be the midpoint of AMA M and EE be the midpoint of AOA O. Then, we note that ADEAMOA D E \sim A M O, so MM is a right angle. Similarly, LL is a right angle. Consequently, we get that AO2=OM2+AM2AL=AO2OL2=112+102122=77A O^{2}=O M^{2}+A M^{2} \Rightarrow A L=\sqrt{A O^{2}-O L^{2}}=\sqrt{11^{2}+10^{2}-12^{2}}=\sqrt{77}
